Right Place-Right Time

One of the reasons I love New York is it spontaneity. Never knowing who you will meet, what you will see or who you will sit right next to, on a subway. Sometimes you never will, or sometimes (like me) you will be shopping on your iphone (or attempting to shop, up until the moment you lose service) and get to know the "stranger" sitting next to you.

Like most people, I keep quiet on a subway. I either keep myself occupied by doing something on my phone, have music playing, or zone out into my own world. Yesterday I was doing just that, when a woman (with her own headphones in) asked me a question.

Keep calm and shop on
Before I continue on any further, this validates my point that everything happens for a reason. Before I walked into my 1pm class, I had two hours to kill and decided to go shopping (or window shopping as I didn't want to look like Rebecca Bloomwood strutting into class). I fell in love with two pairs of boots. One pair were beige-with an open front, just covering the toes, while the other was a navy  suede boot. I tried them both on, tweeting and instagraming pictures of the tentative additions to my closet.

Rationality hit the third time I tried the beige boots on and decided that they were much to "Gaga" for my liking. So I placed the two back (despite knowing that they could hold the size 7.5 boots-that I had just fell in love with), and chose a Starbucks Frappachino as my indulgence (instead).

So when I finally got to class, and was still daydreaming about these suede navy boots that I had fallen in love with, I knew that I really wanted them. So when my everlasting class finally ended, I was on my way back to the store when I got a text that I needed to be back home by 5.

By that point, I had no option BUT to go home. So I jumped in a cab, which inevitably had bumper to bumper traffic, jumped out of the cab and onto the nearest subway. As I was still thinking about the boots (that fitted perfectly)!-I decided to look for them online, and continued to do so, while sitting on the subway.

Thats when a women asked me if I was shopping on my phone, I said yes-and long story short the conversation progressed when she noticed my English accent. I wasn't sure if she was just talkative, curious or just very friendly (which lets admit-you don't usually come across on a subway)! But I engaged in the conversation, explaining that I went to school in the city and was a writer.

Unbeknownst my two minute elevator pitch (the extra credit assignment that I opted not to do last semester)! Was being spoken on a subway. It turned out that the lady (I won't mention names for privacy purposes) I was talking to worked for NBC, and at the end of the conversation (which started with me shopping for shoes)! She complemented my work, saying that she could see me working for them in the future. After taking my business card, we continued to talk until ironically getting out at the same stop.

Lesson learnt? To always expect the unexpected.

Disney princess no longer

Going back to school is bittersweet, while I did miss the socializing and the learning aspect-I will admit to not missing the work overload. With that being said, It is partially my own fault for deciding to take all online/hybrid courses in order to progress with the Mercedes Chloe brand, and get some exciting things in order!

Miley Cyrus at the 2013 VMAS
Inevitably, I have lots to talk about. Lets start with the VMA's. Miley Cyrus has once again made headlines, by wearing a hair style similar to Jar Jar Binks, a bear swimsuit (if thats what we should call it) and (to no surprise) dancing VERY provocatively. Though this time, MTV executives are also being pinpointed for the raunchy performance.
Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke

The Parents Television Council, which is a non-profit organization, aimed to "Protect children from graphic and gratuitous programming and to restore responsibility to the entertainment industry" has issued a statement in which executes called Miley's performance of "twerking" on stage, in a flesh colored latex bikini "Sexually exploitative" and said that it "simply substituted talent with sex."

Yet ironically, Billy Ray Cyrus (Miley's father) is one of the famous faces who volunteers for the council, and told Entertainment Tonight that " She's still my little girl and I'm still her Dad regardless how this circus we call show business plays out. I love her unconditionally and that will never change". But his colleague on the Council's advisory board, and former BET network executive Paul Porter, had some of the harshest words for twenty year old Miley."The Miley Cyrus/Robin Thicke performance simply substituted talent with sex... While the performance was shocking to the audience, MTV approved it during the show run prior to the broadcast," He said.

Even Robin Thicke's (Miley's on stage MARRIED partner in crime at the VMAS) was disturbed at the performance, which included Miley rubbing her bottom on Thicke's crotch. "I just keep thinking of her mother and father watching this. Oh, Lord, have mercy" she told Yahoo! News."I don't understand what Miley Cyrus is trying to do. I just don't understand. I think she's misbegotten in this attempt of hers. And I think it was not beneficial."

The former Disney star proudly stripped down to a skin colored latex bikini, and simulated sex with a foam finger , while grinding against 36 year old Thicke. But the latest rage comes from Brooke Shields who played Miley's mother in the once popular TV show, Hannah Montana. She branded the singers performance as "Desperate".

However Miley, certainly fulfilled her aim to shock, being the most tweeted  act of the night, in VMA history. East Coast Twitter traffic for this year's Video Music Awards peaked at 306,100 tweets per minute, during the duo's raunchy routine. And while Cyrus didn't  quite win any of MTV's 'Moon Man' awards, she did receive the title of "most tweeted-about VMA performance" receiving  "4.5 million mentions in tweets sent out during the 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET airing" notes daily mail reporter  Michael Zennie. "The tweeting rate obliterated last year's VMA records, which peaked at just 98,300 tweets per minute." He states.

So long story short: While I am sitting here complaining about my work load, I must admit how happy I am not to be Miley's Publicist at a time like this!

What I learnt from Cosmopolitan magazine.. (this month)

With only eight days left of August: I'm dumbfounded. The summer has absolutely flown by, along with my enthusiasm for cold weather. But as people go back to school, start a new week at work or just  have a busy schedule in general-most of us don't have time to sit down, with a cup of tea (or coffee) and read the September issue of vogue (all 400 pages) even if our instagram pictures speak otherwise.

So when I woke up yesterday and read cosmopolitans September issue (at a meager 264 pages), I knew the perfect topic: Everything I learnt in cosmopolitan this month.

So what I first realized was that most men just assume Cosmopolitan is about sex (and nothing else). So  despite the big bold and apparently daunting words being on the front cover-men-Cosmopolitan is about far more, than just sex.

So back to what I learnt in the Cosmopolitan "September Issue"
  • I don't really know that much about who Nina Dobrev is, but she is gorgeous! (men-google her) women listen to her. She gave really good love advice saying: "Don't chase people; Be you. Do your own thing & work hard. The right people who belong in your life will come to you and stay"
  • Royal hue blazers are becoming a fashion craze for both men and women. (think: Jessica Alba, Tom Brady, Emmy Rossum, Ryan Reynolds etc)!
  •   Josh Peck (aka the once (emphasis) goofy kid in Drake and Josh) is so hot! Aside from loosing all of his weight, he is now 26, gone through puberty (his words not mine) and advises Amanda Bynes to get a flip phone that doesn't have access to the internet.
  • The US open that starts in three days and ends on September 9th's signature cocktail is The Honey Deuce (1&1/4th part Grey Goose, Fresh lemonade and 1/2 part Chambord, ice, and  honeydew melon balls #yum)!
  • The MTV music awards are being hosted live from Brooklyn's Barclay center in just two days (the 25th of August)
  • NYC fashion week starts on September 5th-September 12th
  • Memmee is an app that is a "judge free" the touch of your iphone
  • white is ..quote on quote "seasonless"
  • Remember when baby spice crimped her hair? Well, those crimpers are a backstage (secret) staple to fall fashion week.
  • Sock buns are out-low messy buns-? In. AND easy.
  • 1/5 couples in the UK, South Africa, Spain, Italy, Germany, Hungary and China met online and find it a key tool for finding love.
  • Marriage is at an all time low (gasp)
I also learnt that in the time that I typed all of this up, I could have started to print out each and every one of my college sylbus-es, read another magazine, or gone to the gym.

Oh well, as they say-time you enjoy wasting is never wasted time

What really goes on at a Victorias Secret fashion show

Victoria's Secret Fashion Show
Aside from mens jaws dropping, and women idolizing the Victorias Secret Angels, what really goes on at a VS fashion show?

It's one of the most anticipated and sexiest nights on television, with it's stunning, strutting supermodels and huge "superstar" singing acts. With millions of viewers each and every year, what really goes on behind the scenes of a Victoria's Secret fashion show?

Add caption
Speaking to UK Vogue, Erin Heatherton said that it's all about big personalities and big hair. "It's a lot of fun - I think there's something special and timeless about girls getting ready together. This is the ultimate display - head-to-toe."Behati Prinsloo also added in that : "It's a girls club! It's kind of manic back their, but also fun and exciting."

The extravagant event, which has famous models like Cara Delevingne, Jourdan Dunn and Miranda Kerr strut down the catwalk in elaborately embellished lingerie attracts hundreds of celebrities each and every year with a different theme.
The famous models don giant angel wings, butterfly wings, peacock feathers and ostrich feathers-which have all become emblematic of the Victoria's Secret brand.

Behati Prinsloo at the Victorias Secret Fashion Show 2012
Erin Heatherton and Behati Prinsloo both aged 24, were not shy admitting that the show is "pure madness". Erin also admitted that her favorite part about the show is having the opportunity to play with her femininity.

"It's a kind of creativity I never tapped into growing up-I love to learn and Victoria's Secret has given me more opportunities than I ever thought possible. I like doing things that scare me-I've learned never to doubt myself." And rightfully so.

Forbes reported in 2012  that five out of the top ten highest earning models for 2012 were long serving Victorias Secret Angels.

The truth about sleeping in makeup

We have all been the girl in " what's your number" waking up to a great looking guy, going home with a great looking guy (presumably your boyfriend) and got into bed without daring to take our make up off, or simply just being to lazy one night to wash our make up of and do our usual "night time" skin regime.

Sleeping in Make Up
Or at least I recently did after a night out, and wondered why on earth my skin was so terrible a few days later. Especially when I have had barely there breakouts.

So I decided to take my curiosity to the next level and google the question, despite making the same mistake a solid two days later. That's when I became even more (agitated at myself/skin)! Curious and stumbled upon a Huffington post article written by Simmone Kitchens.

She investigates the opinions of Dr. Eric Schweiger, who is the founder of the Clear Clinic, and Dr. Erin Gilbert, a New York City dermatologist. The two shared with Simmone, what exactly happens when you decide to skip washing your makeup off at night.

"Sleeping in your makeup can result in unnecessary exposure to the free radicals in the environment, which the makeup holds on to," said Dr. Schweiger. "Free radicals cause the breakdown of healthy collagen, which results in fine lines on the skin. Additionally, makeup can clog the pores while you sleep, resulting in the development of acne." He continued, while my fear of fine lines and acne
also skyrocketed.

Simmone continued to ask more questions about the issue, asking if one night, could really clog pores leading to drastic breakouts. "One night of sleeping in your makeup is unlikely to cause long-lasting damage to your skin," says Dr. Schweiger. "However, each night you sleep in your makeup, your pores become more clogged.  Eventually, this can result in the formation of a microcomedone, which
attracts the acne-causing bacteria to your pores."

"During the day you accumulate a lot of oxidative stress," said Dr. Gilbert, when asked about the possible occurrence of premature aging. "When you sleep in your makeup you are not giving your skin a chance to recover from those insults, which can lead to premature aging." Schweiger concurs, that "free radicals from the environment (often in the form of pollution) remain on the skin when you do
not clean your face properly at night. Free radicals cause collagen breakdown over time, which results in the development of fine lines and prematurely aged skin."

The biggest question I personally wondered was, how a person could walk around in makeup for hours on end ( lets say 9am-9pm-12 hours), yet not lay in bed for 7-8 hours without breaking out. While i suppose Simmone kitchens article validate some questions,  im still curious if there is a formula out there that allows us women to wear makeup to bed ( at least once in a while) without having to worry about breakouts the next morning.

After all-who wants to wake up with bed head and bad skin?!

Get your tounge stitched?

Where have I been? As you can see (courtesy of the scroll bar) my most recent posts have been either styles or pictures opposed from words. This isn't because I have nothing to say, but more because I have so much to say that I have to formulate it in the right way. It's also hard to figure out what type of posts people prefer more. So please feel free to comment below and say (if you prefer one over the other!).

As the last few weeks of summer approach and my senior year of college begins, I can officially say that I will miss 90 degree heat and laying on a pink lilo. But I am definitely looking forward to getting back into the swing of things, in terms of walking around here there and everywhere, and bumping into friends around campus.

Dr Chugay's tounge patch
So lets talk gossip. First of all Lady Gaga. Am I the only one who thinks she has gone under the knife!? (aside from her mandatory hip surgery) In recent barely clothed pictures (in order to promote her new album) her entire face looks different (from cheeks-nose-chin!). Also Kim Kardashian has finally emerged in public, since giving birth to "North West" and while some are arguing that she looked great after giving birth just one month ago, my siding goes to Jessica Simpson who recently made the cover of US weekly for her drastic weight loss (post pregnancy).

Onto much more crazier topics, would you have a patch stitched to your tongue, just to lose weight? two women put the "miracle" patch to the test. The Daily Online shared a story about two women: Marlene Beltran age 20 and Lysander Launza aged 27 who decided to get the stamp sized square sewn onto their tongue, in order to control their food cravings.

Despite the discomfort and pain, both women ended up happy with the results (with Marlene loosing 18 lbs and Lysander loosing 23 lbs in just 30 days). The two shared their experience on an ABC news segment.

So where did this magical patch come from? It was first launched in 2009 by Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Nikolas Chugay. It's secured to the tongue in less than 10 minutes, and takes 6 stitches, and $2000 from your wallet. As the sutures make solid food excruciating to eat, users are forced to resort to Dr Chugays (liquid only) 800 calorie-a-day diet.

The patch is yet to be approved by the FDA.  According to a study submitted by Dr Chugay, his patients lose approximately 18 lbs in 30 days and can keep the weight off for up to eight months. The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery hasn't yet published the research proclaiming that it had "insufficient data".  Dr Robert Huizenga (a weight loss expert) told the Daily online that he is not convinced of the patch's effectiveness, especially over a period of time.

"This is so primitive an approach" the physician who has appeared on the Biggest Loser, stated. "You could hire somebody to hold a gun next to your head and threaten to shoot you every time you eat.
The idea that you put this patch in and every time you take one morsel of solid food, you get this stabbing pain, who the heck know what the long-term consequences of that are" He stated, while also adding in the importance of studies that suggest those who lose weight rapidly usually gain it all back.

What would you say to having a patch sewn into your tongue...just to loose weight?
